"Why live cutting?" Answer: because it's much easier to plant these directly into soil from live cutting; they want real soil ("parent material") much more than the compost-rich environment of a nursery container, which is too unnatural to brassica plants. Select your spot; pre-dibble a hole; poke in the live cutting, and then immediately water and keep well-watered.
